What Is The magicJack WiFi?

MagicJack WiFi is the latest addition to VocalTec’s stable of VoIP telephone devices. MagicJack WiFi is the third generation version of the original magicJack and provides the same features as the first generation magicJack and second generation magicJack Plus, along with several improvements.

Like magicJack and magicJack Plus, the magic Jack Wi Fi will provide users with local and long distance calling to anywhere in the United States and Canada for $29.95 per year (as low as $19.95 in some cases). The difference however will be in how the device operates due to it’s new TJ980 chipset.

With the original magicJack users had to plug the device into their computers USB port and keep their computer running 24/7 in order to make or receive calls. With the updated plus device users were able to move it over to a high-speed port on their modem or router. With the original device, involving a computer caused a number of complications that were tied to the performance of each individual persons computer. Once the MJ+ was released the majority of these issues were resolved, but still with the magicJack’s reliance on being hooked up to another device, complications arose.

Luckily for us the magicJack WiFi has totally eliminated these concerns due to it’s WiFi 802.11n access point feature. With the magicJack WiFi you will only need an electrical outlet and a regular phone. Simply configure the device so that it connects with your wifi internet signal, hook the device up to your phone and into an electrical outlet and you will be ready to go. Besides an internet connection the new magicJack will be able to work independently and not rely on the performance of another gadget. Several other improvement included in the magicJack WiFi’s new chipset are a dedicated high speed local bus for WiFi RF, LCD panel display interface, seamless interface to DECT phone, video compression engineer, auto audio gain control, a power saving sleep mode, and built in double clock DDR memory. Also included will be a doubling of processing power, memory size, and memory speed.

The magicJack WiFi will also be able to be used as a WiFi access point by plugging the unit into a modem, and for cable and satellite boxes allowing them to receive WiFi for video on demand.

MagicJack Wi-Fi is expected to be released sometime during the second half of 2012 and will be the same size as the magicJack Plus. Price estimates have not been released for the new device yet but the per year subscription rate is expected to stay at $29.95 per year. As far as the release date goes don’t hold your breath on it. In the past VocalTec has been very unreliable in meeting their planned released dates for new products.

After 2 years I have no problems at all with original MJ and MJ PLUS

Rob – Customer service has always been 30 seconds away on the MJ contact page computer chat. They have quickly fixed any issues I have had configuring the service. After 2 years I have no problems at all with original MJ and MJ PLUS. The PLUS version works exactly like a phone line as long as you have it connected to the broadband router which everybody already has for hi speed internet.

Voice Quality is “crystal clear”

Susan – For more than 20 years I kept my AT&T phone just in case of Earthquakes in CA when cellphone towers would be jammed w/ traffic. I just bought this MagicJackPlus — I was FLOORED by the Voice Quality, which is “crystal clear” like a Bell while all I got on AT&T was static for local, long distance and 800#s. Try this Internet-affiliated phone, YOU will not regret it!

NOTE – with the 6″ USB extender (provided by Magic Jack that came by USPS) I would get a BLIP (or lose a word or two) until I changed it to a 24″ USB extender, NOW everything is Crystal CLEAR and the MagicJackPlus module does not get overheated.

Upgraded to the magicjack plus

TC – I live in Canada, so I had the magicjack when it could only be used for long distance calling. As soon as started offering Canadian phone numbers I added it. Because I pay for a cell phone every month (3 of them) I didn’t want to have to pay for a landline also.I just upgraded to the magicjack plus a couple of weeks ago, and its awesome, because unlike the magicjack, the magicjack plus doesn’t have to be plugged into your computer anymore. I am a gamer, so when someone would call me magicjack would pop up in the middle of my screen. I would end up turning off the magicjack, but with the plus I keep it on all the time now. I don’t have anything popping up on my screen anymore while im gaming or doing anything else. I only pay $19.99 plus $10.00 dollars for a Canadian number. I’m paying a total of $29.99 a year, rather then the $30 plus dollars it would cost me to have a landline. Magicjack Plus is my landline. It has all the same features as any other phone company offers, just at a much better price, so for anyone that thinks magicjack plus is a scam. If it is, they can keep scamming me for $29.99 a year. If you don’t think your phone company isn’t scamming you and overcharging, think again.

Magic jack and magic jack plus are both amazing

Jan – I am from canada, all i have to say is that the magic jack and the magic jack plus are both amazing devices, and would recommend them to anyone. I have used the magicjack for 3 years, and its fantastic. Now i have the magicjack plus. The call quaility is very good, easy to register, easy to use, surpised at reading all the complaints regarding customer service, I found customer service great, and 100% helpful. I am verry happy with their service, and the savings on my long distance calls.

My MJ+ works as advertised

Daniel – If MJ+ is a scam, it’s probably the first scam in History that actually benefits people. As far as I can tell, my MJ+ works as advertised, and doesn’t cost a dime more than advertised. To me, this is infinitely better than any money-grabbing Canadian phone company I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

Seriously, I get everything I need in a home phone for the price of a single evening meal in a restaurant– *once* per year!

Now, if this is really a scam, go right ahead and scam me some more…

Saved my company upwards of $1,500

Jim – Started a business with the original MJ in 2009 and used it for my business phone. It worked great and probably saved my company upwards of $1,500. Have upgraded to MJ+ for my business line and also added one for my home number. My wife uses the phone a lot and has nothing but praise for it (she was very skeptical). You need a high-speed (DSL, Cable) connection as it will not work on a dial-up line. Using it on a dial-up line would be stupid anyway. Isn’t the idea to tell the phone company to take a hike? Only issue is they can only transfer some numbers, not all. Not thrilled about having to change my number with everyone, but for $20 a year, I can deal with it.

Ron Robertson – I have been using the original Magic Jack for 3 years and really think it is great. It’s nice being able to stick it to Bell Canada for their long distance charges. I have ordered the magicjack Plus and am looking forward to using it soon. I have heard that trying to “port” my existing Toronto # may not be possible to the magic jack plus? This may be a Canadian CRTC legal deal but I will try it out. Thanks for a great product!

Anonymous – I was skeptical with MagicJack Plus but I said the heck with it anyway… let me just try it out so I bought myself one for $69.95. Now just so you know, I have an active digital phone through Time Warner Cable connected in my home office already. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me be the one to tell you that MagicJack Plus is AMAZING! I used it all day for business calls and the communication delivery was cyrstal clear. No call drops, no background static, and the service performance is just like my Time Warner digital phone. So with this being said, I have to warn Time Warner Cable, Vonage, Cox Digital Phone, and any other MagicJack competitors – this device is fantastic so you might as well discontinue offering your digital phone package b/c MagicJack PLUS is taking over. Thank you for saving me money, MagicJack PLUS. May God bless you!

Phone quality is perfect just like a normal phone

George Jacob – Just got my MJ Plus today and I installed the system with no problem. I am using the MJ Plus without a PC. The phone quality is perfect just like a normal phone which I hope to replace with the MJ Plus. The only thing wrong is no New-Brunswick number yet. I had to get a Nova-Scotia number temporarily I hope. This is my second MJ. I bought the original MJ in Florida which is saving me a fortune in long distance and got a Florida number with ease. I hope my New-Brunswick number come soon! Thanks MJ.
